Umbraco 15 was released on 14 November 2024. The new version brings significant improvements in the areas of performance, flexibility and user-friendliness. 

Umbraco CMS version 15 is primarily intended to facilitate the development of large, content-driven websites. With a new user interface (UI) for the rich text editor, support for client credentials, hybrid caching functionality and block-based variants, the release aims to improve flexibility and performance.

Important dependencies such as .NET 9 have been updated to provide the latest technologies and improved performance.

Overview of the new features in Umbraco 15

Alternative UI for the rich text editor

• Introduction of a new rich text editor interface based on TipTap
• TinyMCE is no longer supported
• Improved handling of copy-paste content

Client credentials

• Introduction of API users for using the management API in secure system-to-system interactions
• Separation between standard and API users and corresponding group and authorisation structure.

Manifest type architecture

• Global definitions for extension manifests (type ‘UmbExtensionManifest’) to improve extensibility.
• Improved modularity and type consistency.

Lazy-Loaded Content

• Content is loaded on demand to reduce the memory load and optimise the start time.
• ntroduction of new services such as IDocumentNavigationQueryService for navigation and IDocumentUrlService for route management.

Block-based variants 

• Support for block-based content with language variants.
• Improved handling of multilingualism in block lists and grids.

Umbraco 15 is a Standard Term Support (STS) version. This means that it has a shorter support period compared to Long-Term Support (LTS) versions.
